SEBO Automatic X7 / X8

Automatic height adjustment. Hospital-grade filtration.

SEBO's flagship upright. Automatically adjusts brush-roll height for any floor type, with the same modular repairability and S-Class filtration the Felix is famous for.

Best for

Mixed-floor homes, allergy sufferers, and customers who want a true set-it-and-forget-it premium upright.

What you get

  • Automatic brush height adjustment
  • S-Class hospital-grade sealed filtration
  • Generous bag capacity
  • Long power cord
  • Made in Germany

The upright that adjusts itself

The Automatic X7 and X8 are SEBO's flagship uprights, and the headline feature is exactly what the name says: the machine senses the floor surface and sets brush-roll height automatically. Move from tile to a low-pile runner to plush bedroom carpet and the head adapts without you touching a dial. It sounds like a convenience feature; in practice it's a cleaning feature, because most people never adjust height manually and therefore clean at the wrong setting most of the time.

Everything else is standard SEBO discipline: S-Class hospital-grade sealed filtration, a generous bag capacity that means fewer changes, a long cord, an instrument panel that reports problems, and a fully modular parts design. Motor and casing are covered for ten years, and the machine is built in Germany.

Why it fits local homes

Mixed flooring is the norm here, and so is dust. Automatic height adjustment means the brush roll stays in proper contact with carpet fibers — the mechanism that actually lifts embedded grit out of the pile — while backing off appropriately on hard surfaces so it isn't scattering debris or scuffing finish.

The sealed S-Class path handles the rest. In a valley where farm dust, road silt, and wood smoke are seasonal facts of life, keeping fine particulate inside a sealed bag rather than pushing it through a partially filtered exhaust makes a measurable difference to indoor air. Larger bag capacity also means a big house can be cleaned end to end without a mid-job change.

Living with it

Routine ownership is bags, filters, and attention to the indicator panel. We recommend the same annual shop visit we suggest for every premium machine: brush roll and bearing inspection, belt, filters, seals, and motor test. SEBO components are engineered as serviceable parts, so replacing a worn item is straightforward and inexpensive relative to the machine's value.

As an authorized dealer we stock bags, filters, and common parts in Twin Falls and perform warranty repairs in-house. Turnaround on typical service is a few days, not the weeks involved in shipping a machine across the country.

Who should buy it

This is the set-it-and-forget-it premium upright. Choose it for mixed-floor homes, allergy households, and anyone who wants top-tier German build without thinking about settings. It's also our common recommendation for larger homes because of the bag capacity and cord length.

Prefer the Felix if you specifically want the modular hand-vac and canister conversions and like choosing heads yourself. Prefer the Riccar R40 if your home is heavily carpeted and deep-pile extraction is the priority. Consider the SEBO Dart if the machine will run daily in a commercial setting.

Questions

SEBO Automatic X7 / X8 — common questions

What buyers ask us before they choose this system.

Why doesn't Consumer Reports rank Riccar or SEBO vacuums?

Consumer Reports provides valuable baseline testing, but its contender selection naturally emphasizes mass-market big-box models based on retail shelf availability. Dealer-grade brands like Riccar and SEBO are sold through independent dealers, so they're often outside that pool. The carpet industry's own benchmark, the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval program, awarded Riccar's Tandem Air its Gold Seal, and SEBO is known for German engineering and S-Class sealed filtration. Sawtooth in Twin Falls, Idaho lets you test both side by side in our showroom.

Bagged or bagless — which is better?

For allergy and asthma households, bagged wins clearly. The bag is the primary filter, it seals the dust in, and you throw it away without a cloud of dander in the laundry room. Bagless saves you the cost of bags but re-releases fine dust every time you empty the bin and requires regular filter cleaning to keep suction up.

How long should a good vacuum last?

The machines we carry are built for 10 to 20 years of household use. Riccar and Simplicity uprights routinely pass a decade with a belt and filter here and there; SEBO's modular German build regularly runs 20-plus years because nearly every component is replaceable rather than disposable.

What is sealed HEPA filtration and does it matter?

A HEPA filter alone means little if air can bypass it through gaps in the housing. Sealed HEPA means the entire airflow path is gasketed so everything the machine picks up actually goes through the filter. If anyone in the house has allergies or asthma, this is the single spec worth paying for.

Do you service what you sell?

Everything. Bags, belts, filters, brush rolls, cords, hoses, and motors for every brand on our floor are stocked or orderable, and repairs are handled in our own Twin Falls shop rather than shipped off to a regional depot.
