Riccar

Riccar has been building vacuums since 1967 and has assembled its uprights in St. James, Missouri since parent company Tacony brought production to the United States. The St. James plant also builds Simplicity, which is why the two lines share engineering while targeting different buyers — Riccar toward deep-carpet cleaning power, Simplicity toward lightweight handling.

The engineering signature is Tandem Air: rather than one motor doing both jobs, Riccar's premium uprights use a dedicated motor to drive the brush roll and a second for suction. Agitation stays strong even as the bag fills, which is the point at which most single-motor machines quietly lose the ability to pull embedded grit out of carpet pile.

Riccar is a dealer-only brand. You will not find these machines in a department store, which is deliberate — the company sells through shops that stock parts and do their own repairs rather than through channels that treat a vacuum as disposable.

Repairability is the honest reason. Metal brush rolls, steel handle frames, and standardized belts mean a ten-year-old Riccar that comes into our shop is almost always worth fixing. We've kept machines from the early 2000s running on parts we still stock.

It also suits Magic Valley homes. A lot of our customers deal with fine agricultural dust and pet traffic on wall-to-wall carpet, and Tandem Air plus sealed HEPA handles that combination better than anything at a comparable price point.
