LUMINOR Blackcomb 5.1 / 6.1 UV System

Whole-house chemical-free disinfection with real-time UV monitoring.

The Blackcomb is a point-of-entry UV system that treats every drop of water entering your home — no chemicals, no taste change, just safe water at every tap. The 6.1 model adds a true 254nm Teflon-based UV sensor with a color-screen controller so you know the lamp is actually doing its job, not just powered on. Available from 2 GPM (point-of-use) up to 21 GPM (whole home).

Why we sell it

If you're on a well, this is the single best peace-of-mind upgrade you can make — and Blackcomb is the only residential UV we've found that actually measures UV output instead of just confirming the lamp is powered.

Questions

LUMINOR Blackcomb 5.1 / 6.1 UV System — common questions

What buyers ask us before they choose this system.

Does the Nelsen UV system need power and pretreatment?

Yes to both. The lamp needs a standard outlet nearby, and it needs reasonably clear water to be effective, so sediment filtration goes in ahead of it. We size the lamp to your flow rate so contact time is adequate at peak household demand.

Do I need UV disinfection on a private well?

If your well has ever tested positive for coliform or E. coli, or if it's shallow, older, or near livestock or septic, UV is the standard fix. It inactivates bacteria, viruses, and cysts without adding any chemical or changing taste. Many Magic Valley well owners install it as low-cost insurance after a bad test.

How often does the UV lamp need replacing?

Annually. The lamp keeps glowing well past the point where its germicidal output drops below effective levels, so it's a calendar item, not a wait-until-it-dies item. The quartz sleeve should be cleaned at the same time, and we set customers up on an annual reminder.

Does UV remove iron, hardness, or sediment?

No. UV only inactivates living organisms. It also requires reasonably clear water to work, so sediment filtration ahead of the lamp is required and iron or hardness treatment is often installed alongside it. We design the whole train, not just the lamp.
