A central vacuum mounts a powerful canister in the garage or utility room and pipes the suction through the walls to inlets in every room. Plug in a lightweight hose, vacuum the room, walk to the next inlet. No carrying, no dragging, no exhaust blowing dust around your living space.

What to know before you buy

Why people love them: Five to ten times more suction than a portable, exhausts outside the living space (huge for allergies), and the canister only needs emptying a few times a year. The hose is the only thing you carry from room to room.
Retrofit or new build: Easiest to install during construction, but most existing homes can be retrofitted by running pipe through closets, basements, and attic spaces. We've installed plenty into Twin Falls–area homes that were built without one.
